EV Charging Station Installation In Franklin, TN
New EV in the driveway and a Level 1 cord that adds four miles an hour? A proper 240-volt circuit turns overnight into a full battery. We check your panel first and tell you honestly what the run will take.
From Four Miles An Hour To A Full Battery
Almost nobody buys an electric car and keeps using the cord it came with for long. Level 1 charging draws from an ordinary household outlet and returns somewhere around three to five miles of range an hour. That is fine if you drive a few miles around Franklin and park overnight. It stops being fine the first week you commute up I-65 into Nashville and come home at twenty percent.
A Level 2 charger runs on a dedicated 240-volt circuit and returns roughly 25 to 40 miles of range per hour, which means any overnight is a full charge regardless of how the day went. The charger is rarely the hard part — the two things that actually decide the job are how far your panel sits from where the car parks, and whether that panel has the capacity and the physical space for the new circuit.
- Panel capacity and breaker space checked properly, not assumed
- Dedicated 240-volt circuit sized to your specific charger
- Hardwired or NEMA 14-50 outlet, whichever suits the unit
- Load-management devices where a panel upgrade is not worth it
- Permit pulled, inspection met, cable run kept tidy and protected

Three Versions Of The Same Question
Will My Panel Take It?
The one that decides the price. Older Franklin panels often need a plan before a charger.

Garage wall beside the panel is cheap. Detached garage across the driveway is not.

Capacity Decides Almost Everything
A Level 2 charger is not a small addition. It is a large, sustained load that may run for hours at a stretch, so it has to be assessed against your existing service rather than simply added to it. This is where the mix of housing stock in Franklin genuinely changes the answer.
The newer subdivisions — Westhaven, Ladd Park, McKay's Mill, Sullivan Farms — are generally 200-amp with spare breaker space, and those are the clean single-visit installs. Homes around Downtown Franklin, the Historic District and the older streets off Columbia Avenue are a different story: 100-amp service, a full panel, and sometimes a sub-panel already added for a previous project. Those are still very doable, but the honest quote includes what to do about the panel.
If a service upgrade is not where you want to spend, load management is a real alternative. A managed circuit lets the charger share capacity with an existing large load and back off automatically when the dryer or the air conditioning kicks in — you charge slightly slower on rare occasions and skip the upgrade entirely. Our panel upgrade write-up for Franklin covers the other route, and panel and service work is on our main electrical pages.
| Your situation | What we usually recommend | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 200-amp panel, spare space | Dedicated 240-volt circuit, hardwired charger | Nothing in the way — the only real variable is the cable route |
| 200-amp panel, no spare space | Sub-panel or breaker reconfiguration, then the circuit | Capacity is fine, it is purely a physical space problem and a cheap fix |
| 100-amp panel | Load-management device, or a service upgrade if you want headroom | Both are legitimate. Load management is cheaper; the upgrade helps the whole house |
| Two EVs, or an EV plus a generator | Service upgrade with managed circuits | Stacking large loads is where undersized service actually causes problems |
Panel Assessment
The Distance From Panel To Parking Spot
Two houses on the same street can get quotes hundreds of dollars apart for the identical charger, and the reason is almost always the cable route. If your panel is on the garage wall and the car parks six feet away, the run is short, surface-mounted and quick. If the panel is in a basement on the far side of the house and the car parks in a detached garage across the driveway, that is conduit, trenching or a long fished run through finished space.
Older properties near Main Street and the Historic District tend to be the awkward ones — detached garages, no straight path, and plaster walls that nobody wants opened. We walk the actual route before quoting, so the number you get is the number you pay.
- Route walked and measured before any price is given
- Surface conduit where it is tidy, concealed runs where it matters visually
- Trenching and outdoor-rated runs for detached garages and carports
- Charger mounted at a height and position that suits how you actually park
- Cable management so the lead is not lying across the floor
Franklin & Williamson County
Usually Done In One Visit
Most Level 2 installs are a single visit of three to six hours. The exception is a panel or service upgrade, which is a bigger piece of work in its own right — when that is needed we sequence it so the charger goes in right behind it instead of leaving you waiting on a second appointment.
We pull the permit either way. Adding a 240-volt circuit is inspected electrical work, and an uninspected charger is the kind of thing that surfaces awkwardly at resale or in an insurance claim. It is not worth saving a few dollars on.
- 1 Panel and service assessment, plus a walk of the actual cable route
- 2 Fixed-scope quote covering circuit, mounting, permit and any panel work
- 3 Permit pulled with the correct jurisdiction for your address
- 4 Circuit run, charger mounted and commissioned, unit tested with your car
- 5 Inspection met, and we show you how the unit reports and schedules charging

EV ownership in Williamson County has grown fastest in exactly the places you would expect — the newer subdivisions off Carothers Parkway and out toward Westhaven, where two-car households commuting to Nashville and Cool Springs are common. Those homes tend to have the panel capacity already, so the work is mostly about a clean run and a sensible mounting position.
The older core of Franklin is the interesting half of our work: detached garages, 100-amp service, and homeowners who want the charger without a visible conduit down the front of the house. That is solvable, it just needs someone to look at the route properly first. We also fit chargers for offices and multi-unit parking on the Cool Springs side through our commercial electrical team.
